MARY ANN STAPLETON
March 11, 1948 - June 9, 1975
Mary Ann was the daughter of Hilda and Alex, the sister of Marvin, Lula Clarine, Annakate, Lexi, Brenda, Henry, Barb, Linda, Marie and Cathy, she was the Aunt of sixteen nephews and nine nieces.
Mary graduated high school and went on to college to earn her Licensed Pratical Nurse degree. After college she spread her wings and moved to San Diego, California. She talked so highly of her life in San Diego that two of her sisters followed her there. Although she was so far away from her family all of her nieces and nephews except the niece that was only four days old when Mary Ann died knew her. I guess that’s a testament to how families can stay close when miles apart.
Mary Ann’s life ended suddenly in San Diego California on June 9, 1975. The police and autopsy reports don’t match. Facts reported don’t make sense to her siblings. As the time passed we all heard stories, facts and rumors about what happened the night Mary Ann was shot.
We have found her two “GOOD FRIEDS” who were at her apartment when Mary Ann was shot. One asked that we send her the reports as they may help her remember. She told us what was in the reports and the following information copied from her email.
I know you mentioned on facebook that she worked as an LPN for a Doctor Summerville, but that's notwhat she told us. As far as we know she worked nights at a place called "The Body Shop" - although we never went there - it's basically a men's nightclub (topless dancers).
You know, I can't remember the name of her roommate. I think she was in the Navy.
I do remember Mary Ann as a sweet person.
The other friend has refused to say a word, however through her sister we learned that she knew Mary Ann Stapleton as Mary Ann Hornick.
Growing up we all heard the stories, rumors, doubts and we all saw the pain. When we read the police reports it didn’t make sense so we requested the autopsy report. That is where it gets very interesting and we started looking for the people who were there when Mary Ann was shot. Our goal in this search is to do one of two things prove or refute the the reports. It would bring peace and releive doubts of her siblings about the tragic death of their sister.
